Gareth Bale has been a national treasure in Wales for some time, but became a modern hero Friday.
Bale scored both goals for Wales in a comeback 2-1 victory over host Andorra in the Estadi Communal Aixovall. Andorra, which embody the nickname "small fish", took a surprise lead in the sixth minute when Ildefons Lima scored from the penalty spot. It was the first goal of Andorra in official matches since 2010 Bale equalized on 22 minutes when he headed Ben Davies cross' on the network.
But this Wales team is considered the best in generations,
and traveling fans were not happy to see his team struggle to beat the team-199th in the world ranking. It took almost an hour for Bale to put his team ahead for good and the UEFA Euro 2016 qualifying campaign in his country on the track. 81 minutes, Bale struck a free kick, which flew over the wall but dipped under the crossbar, beating diving goalkeeper.
Bale's second goal made him a hero back home, but his conclusion - copy the signature move of his teammate Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid - reportedly made him the butt of many a joke on the internet.
Bale is not worried about how the Internet (and Ronaldo) will react to its conclusion. The Welsh wizard is just happy that his team won the game and not have to suffer the indignity of being first scalp of Andorra in 44 official matches.
